Publishing and unpublishing custom engines gives control to system administrators and users with manage engines permission over who can translate documents with an engine, and a way to prevent using certain engines in production.

The following table outlines who can translate documents using an engine:

All new engines are unpublished by default, and must be published before users with translate documents permission can use them to translate documents. This also covers usage via CAT tool plugins.
